The name was chosen in part due to the precise nature of the music. Each song starts as a rough idea, a sonic playground driven by emotion, and is meticulously faceted into its final recorded form. Founding member Forest Bailey’s Grandmother Beverly was also involved in jewelry making, and was highly encouraging in finding one’s own path. Having dabbled in jewelry making himself, it’s a culmination of many points of inspiration.


The brainchild of lifelong guitarist Forest Bailey, Lapidary originally emerged in 2024. A return-to-roots playing of electric guitar styles after years as a solo acoustic musician came to a slow during the great timeout of 2020-2022.
Parsing influences from Covet, Chon and Plini, to Michael Hedges and Scale The Summit through a lens grounded in Forest’s background of fingerpicking and experimenting with alternate tunings and unorthodox techniques. Based in Portland, Oregon. Lapidary is a two piece band. Guitar & Drums being the main instruments. A uniquely nuanced, expressive, and nerdy take on instrumental storytelling — self-dubbed as “Detail Rock”.
